Rally for the Peace River
Monday, May 29 @ 12:15 pm - 1:00 pm
The Site C dam now under construction in northern British Columbia is one of the largest resource development projects of this generation. The joint federal provincial assessment of the dam found that its impact on the unique ecosystem of the Peace River Valley would be severe, permanent and irreversible. Hundreds of First Nations gravesites and other cultural sites would be destroyed. First the Harper government, and now the Trudeau government have backed the dam without ever explaining how doing so can be reconciled with Canada`s Treaty obligations.
More than 120,000 Canadians have signed petitions and postcards calling for a halt to this destructive mega-project. Join Helen Knott, a direct descendent of one of the original Treaty 8 signatories, in a rally to hold the Trudeau government accountable for its promise to respect the Treaties and protect the environment.
